Growing Forests announced today that it has achieved certification under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), becoming the first nature-based forest carbon project generating credits from forests located in Atlantic Canada.

The achievement follows a rigorous multi-year development, validation and certification process under Verra’s Improved Forest Management methodology (VM0034). The process includes independent review, technical assessment and ongoing verification requirements designed to ensure the quality, transparency and integrity of carbon credits generated by the project.

Growing Forests acquires well-stewarded mature forests and applies ecological forestry principles designed to maximize long-term carbon storage, strengthen biodiversity and improve climate resilience. By combining carbon revenue with responsible forest management, Growing Forests creates a new economic pathway to support the long-term stewardship of Atlantic Canadian forests.

Earlier this year, Growing Forests secured its first major multi-year carbon credit partnership with a leading Canadian company. The agreement represents a significant milestone for the company and will enable Growing Forests to acquire and ecologically manage up to 50,000 acres of Atlantic Canadian forests by 2030.

The first phase of this expansion includes planned acquisitions in Nova Scotia and Growing Forests’ first acquisition in New Brunswick. These forests will contribute to future carbon credit issuances, with credits expected to become available following completion of the required verification and issuance processes.

Growing Forests is now working with organizations seeking long-term access to high-integrity nature-based carbon credits and partnerships that go beyond commodity carbon purchases. Through these partnerships, Growing Forests aims to expand a new model where corporate climate investment supports measurable outcomes for forests, biodiversity and rural communities.
